Rattling Off Bullets

Putting me on blast, XCOM! D:

At the moment, the last week feels like it was very long indeed. Late-day energy crashes are fun. As such, quick bullet points:

  • [Non-stodgy bank] interview process has gone well. I made it through to the final round and had that interview on Thursday. Apparently I should hear back by EOD tomorrow (22 April) whether it went to me or one of the other three final candidates.
  • Still applied to two open KCLS positions, just in case. Trying to not repeat the “wait on results before applying to more stuff” mistake again.
  • I recommitted to exercising more (I wasn’t doing as much as I wanted) and looked at making changes I might need and figured out a few things:
    • I got coffee with a friend who also does personal training and gave me some tips on how to adjust my weightlifting to make faster progress towards my goals
    • I finally found a cardio workout I can do that drives me hard enough I keep my heart rate up in the cardio-ish range for the whole time. Plus, lots of ab work. It’s utterly exhausting, and reminds me in a good way of boxing class. It’s probably a hair *too* hard for me right now, but not in an insurmountable way. Look forward to improving more to the point it’s slightly less ass-kicking.
    • Added some new exercises to the weightlifting routine, as well as adjusting technique on some moves, to target body parts I want to strengthen/grow that feel neglected right now.
    • Working on building the habit of tracking food again. Not so I can lose weight, really, but more so I can make sure my macros are where I want them to be and to keep track of some nutrient stuff (fiber, sodium, etc.).
    • Working out at like 5-6pm actually works pretty well for me as a way to end the “workday” right now. Looking at sticking with that, will see how it goes.
  • Recorded many Primary Attribute episodes. I definitely blew the monster/fight design for an encounter that ended up dragging on forever and not being very interesting. (I talked about it somewhat in last week’s post.) I want to do a post-mortem analysis of it now that the fight’s over. Ideally as a writeup I could share to a) give people insight into GMing a podcast game, and b) show that I really do do game design.
  • Saw an old friend for coffee. It was good to catch up, and to have someone to talk about some Feelings Stuff ™ with. Sometimes you want to share things with more people than just your iguana and your therapist, you know?
  • Played board games with a pair of friends, one of whom I hadn’t seen in months. The Captain is Dead is a very good game, by the way. I’d lke to play another round of it sometime.
    • After this game night I also got to hang out with my friend for a couple more hours, which was nice. I don’t get to see him in-person or one-on-one very often, so have the opportunity here was great even if it meant staying up very late compared to my usual.
  • I’ve been playing through XCOM: Enemy Within and having a good time with it. Like most games I like, it’s a little too easy for me to lose a ton of time to. That’s not its fault, though. I think I’m slightly too far ahead of the game’s difficulty curve at the moment, but I fully expect it to smack me back down any moment here. XCOM games be like that.
  • Saw the first episode of the Fallout TV show and enjoyed it. I refuse to get Amazon Prime for myself (I saw the one ep on FreeVee), so I’ll need to see if someone can loan me a password or if there’s another way to pick up the rest of the season.

Was there other stuff? Probably! But that’s what we’ve got for now. I hope y’all had a good week, and have something to look forward to coming up this week. 🙂
