The blog, it sings to me from the darkness. It craves manifestation. It craves…AN UPDATE.
But seriously, it’s been a hot minute and I want to get back on the damn wagon. Life’s been nuts lately, but that’s always true. Doesn’t mean I can’t take time here and there to bang out a post.
The last few weeks have been interesting. Biggest news is that my iguana, Jabberwocky, is pretty sick. After some tricky diagnosis the vet figured out that it’s likely a spine infection. We finished her course of antibiotics on Tuesday, and I’m took her in today for a followup. On Saturday, it felt like she might be knocking on heaven’s door, but the last few days she seems to have perked up and seems less strained. But she still isn’t eating, so I don’t think she’s out of the woods yet. Hopefully my next update here will contain good news. The poor girl’s lived a pretty hard life, I’d like her to have some more time in this world to just bask and eat leaves, you know?
I have a new roommate, which is pretty rad. Still working out living with someone I didn’t know previously, but I think we’ve been doing okay. I just have to get over myself and remember to use the common areas instead of hiding in my room all the time. But that’s 100% on me. It’s an old habit I need to break.
Grad school has risen from its uneasy slumber to drive me mad. I knew going in this professor was going to be tough, but that I’d learn a lot. I apparently forgot how much the tough part sucks. Loads of work in this class, and it’s not easy. But at least at the moment there’s been a bit of a lull, and hopefully I’ll manage to stay more on top of stuff in the future. A couple weekends ago I spent like 12 hours between Saturday and Sunday to write a paper, and even then it ended up feeling rushed. Not ideal.
I haven’t been writing much. Shivering Deeps edits aren’t transcribed yet, though I did start the process. It’s just hard for me to get myself to sit down and actually do it. I did come up with an idea for a new short story, though, and I’m keeping myself from working on it until the transcription is done and the story’s off to a beta reader. So now there’s a reward at the end of that tunnel. I just need to find time to do the work. Probably in the time I currently spend accidentally napping after I get home from my day job.
The one habit that has been going surprisingly well is workouts. I’m back into weightlifting with a vengeance, managing to do it 2-3x a week, and have started tracking my calories again. My macros aren’t exactly where I want them to be, but knowing roughly what’s going in and going out lets me feel a lot more in control than usual. I’m planning on doing a bulk for now, and we’ll see how I’m feeling in a couple months and I’ll decide on whether to go up or down from there then.
Lastly, I turn 29 tomorrow, so that’s gonna be weird.
How’s everyone else doing lately?
